This prescription cost gonna make me rob somebody, watch!

A month ago I had the shock of my life when I rolled up to the drive through window (y’all got a drive through pharmacy right?) to pick up my son’s prescription and the cost had gone up tenfold literally. He’s been taking this particular medication for at least a year now and our copay is typically $5 (I was wrong in the video, it’s $5). I roll up that day and they hit me with “$50 ma’am”.

FIFTY DOLLARS?!! Say what say who say WHAT?!

Now I’m not the criminal type, but I may have to reconsider. Β Do they realize that they just tried to tell me that instead of paying $60 a year for this prescription I’d be paying SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS per year? Did they? Did they?!!!

No.

Unfortunately I paid for it, changed my mind, tried to return it immediately and these bustas wouldn’t take it back because you can’t return a Rx once it’s left their hands. *insert EPIC SIDE EYE here oh wait I got a smiley for that*

So, make sure to to check out the video above to see my real time reaction to the fact that I may have to find a corner to stroll to pay for my son’s medication, either that or the gas stations in my areaΒ may become targets … I’m just saying.

Oh and as an update, as of this week when I thought I’d worked out the entire thing with my insurance, getting an override and refund of the $45 extra I paid and promise it would be $5 going forward, I pull up to the drive through and they buss out with $40.

FORTY MONKEY FLIPPIN BONES!!! Say what say who say WHAT?!

After an HOUR AND A HALF on the phone with my insurance provider, my pharmacy, and company we’re insured via I gave up and am at the same spot. My son’s therapist said we can try him off the meds, or I may find some natural remedies and see if they give similar results with significant savings. #yallpray

These people want me to become a criminal. (I’m fully award that the smilie *may* be a ninja but I’m to ticked to care right now #focus)

Have you been affected by any insurance changes recently?

Girl yeah. We learned about changes 3 or 4 years ago when my husband’s company switched pharmacy plans. We got a letter in the mail that long-term medications required us to get them through mail order. If not, after the 3rd in store pickup, we would have to pay full price at the counter. It took a WHILE to get use to but now they send us reminder letters every month.

Recently we have only been told that some weren’t covered anymore but they gave us an easy substitution. So, overall, we have not had anything major go down. Although my son’s eczema medicine, WITH insurance, runs about $125. The devil is a lie!! Luckily my pharmacist told me to get a coupon off the internet and it brought the price down to $25. Praise him!! The coupon works for only three refills; then we just find another coupon. We NEVER knew pharmacy manufacturers offer coupons.

Maybe the manufacturer of your son’s medicine has pharmacy coupons online. πŸ˜‰

The problem is the medicine in question only has a 21 day shelf-life so the 90 day prescription rule makes no sense. We got an exception but they can’t get their act together and are now sending us bills. It’s a maze of paperwork and we’re stuck. I’m so over them.

aw man…that shelf life sucks. From my experience with insurance peeps, keep at it. They think they can wear you down and you will give in. Keep holding on mama…..
