FreeTherapy β€’ Does Depression = Weak Faith?

Jumping on with video number 6 in my Free Therapy Series (formally known as Depression series). Β I was asked if having depression means you have weak or no faith and this is my response:

One of my comments on YouTube points out that depression is “not of God” and I totally agree. Β That said, I wanted to make this video specifically to

a. Encourage those Christians dealing with someone who is depressed to STOP harping on them about having weak or no faith … seriously … you are not helping. Use that energy to ENCOURAGE the depressed person to stop being so self-focused, and turn their eyes to others as well as get help. Love should always be your motivation, never overbearing judgement.

b. Encourage the person living with depression to STOP believing the lies people feed you about your faith being non-existant because you are going through this mental disease. You need to ask for help & stop listening to them because they are coming from a place of judgement attempting to get the results that only love can give. Β Look at God, get up, get help, keep living, keep it moving.

I just want to say you ROCK! Thank you for this post. This was my first time to your blog but certainly won’t be my last. I LOVE how you have scripture to support your points… You’re just awesome!

This is a uplifting post. I was having a conversation just last night about this very topic. My friend’s cousin committed suicide earlier this year even though it seemed that she had a lot going for her (education, great job, beautiful, loving family & friends). She attempted suicide earlier last year and rather than get her professional help she was told she needs to talk to her Pastor and really seek God, why would she do that to her parents and people who love her, etc. I don’t know the family but I was devastated and disappointed. She should not have been made to feel guilty about her family or her faith. I wonder if it could have been prevented had it been addressed properly!

Goodness, that is very sad. You will never know what “could have” been so don’t get stuck there in your own mind.
